About Us
The South African Border War, also known as the Namibian War of Independence, began on August 26, 1966. The war was fought between the South African Defence Force (SADF) and the People's Liberation Army of Namibia (PLAN) in Namibia, Angola, and Zambia. The war ended on March 21, 1990.
The war was a result of the colonial past, where European nations and white minorities colonized and governed most African countries. After World War II, African states gained independence from their colonial rulers, often through violent liberation struggles.
The war was also closely linked to the Angolan Civil War. The war included several major phases, including:
- 1966: The first major clash of the war took place in South West Africa.
- 1975–1988: The SADF conducted large raids into Angola to eliminate PLAN's bases.
- 1988: The New York Accords were signed, leading to the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Angola.
- 1990: Namibia gained independence from South Africa after parliamentary elections.
Growing up in the 80’s in South Africa and like all other South Africans during that time, we were surrounded by “Images of War” and daily reminders of the ongoing war efforts. My father was one of the thousands of young South Africans that did Compulsory National service and subsequent Military Camps – When I was born in the summer of 83 my Late Father was on one of the said camps. He only saw me for the first time as 3-month-old infant and the first thing he did was place his Infantry Beret on my head ( I still have the photo )
I would like to think that it was at that moment that my passion for Military related items started – With every deployment or camp that my late father did he would bring back a “memento “for me. By the time I was 6 years old I had a fairly large collection ( for a 6-year-old anyway ) My Father would tell me stories about the various Units and their functions all of which formed the South African version of the “War Machine “
That was almost 35 years ago, and I have never stopped collecting – In my later years I started researching all the various African Conflicts, from the Rhodesian Bush War to the Conflicts in the DRC and broadened my collection to the entire continent.
Around the age of 25 I had amassed a huge collection and though that it was time to start letting go of some of the collection – My wife and I started trading on Bidorbuy as JBL Auctioneers and have remained one of the Top-Rated sellers in the Category.
